In a perfect world, I’d have a meticulous schedule planned out for each newborn session. But the reality is, our little newborns have a plan of their own; any parent knows how that is.

Although I offer my client parents advice on things to keep in mind prior to arriving to their session, I never want to make it an added stress. I want my parents to feel at ease. I’m a mother myself so I know how difficult it can be to keep a newborn on a schedule.

Once you arrive to my studio, I will ask when baby’s last feeding was. This will help me judge approximately how much time we have before baby will be hungry again. Normally, baby will settle once wrapped and cuddled up. I try to use up to 3 different wraps. I’ll place baby on the cozy stretched table surface and rotate it depending on the direction of light. I’ll take a variety of angle shots. I’ll then remove the outer wrap, revealing the middle wrap. I might then place baby in a bucket prop, use foliage and change color tones, allowing for a variety in the photo gallery. If the family has chosen to be included in the session, I will start out with sibling & parent poses first, then poses of baby alone.

The most important thing is keeping baby safe and secure while achieving beautiful portraits.
